The Temple of Lord Shiva Omkareshwar is situated on the banks of River Narmada, in between Indore & Khandwa. The temple is situated on an island Omkareshwar is a temple dedicated to God Shiva. There are 12 Jyotirlings Shrine of lord Shiva and it is one them. The island comprises two high and giant hills and is divided by a valley in such a way that it appears in the shape of the “Sacred Hindu symbol ‘Om’ from above”. And therefore It derives its name from the symbol of “ Om”. There are two temples here, one to Omkareshwar, and one to Amareshwar (AMAR – Immortal) But as per the Mantra on dwadash (Twelve) jyotirligam, Mamleshwar is the jyotirling, which is on other side of Narmada river Between the dangerously high and perpendicular hills of the Vindhya on the North and the Satpura on the South.
